| In the course of excavation work, you may encounter pipeline markers. Pipeline markers identify the pipeline company’s name and phone number, and the general area (but not exact location) where natural gas pipelines run.
It’s important to call your local utilities protection service prior to any digging or excavation, whether it's for a small landscape project or large-scale construction job.
Call 811 before any digging project and your call will be routed to your local One Call Center. One Call Center operators will notify area utilities to mark the approximate location of underground lines. Check out more information on 811.
Protection services require 48 hours (two business days) notice in Georgia and 72 hours (three business days) notice in South Carolina. For more information on your state’s requirements, see below:

Excavating Near a Natural Gas Transmission Line In order to ensure the safety and integrity of our pipelines, the federal government requires inspections anytime a line is exposed. Therefore, a CGT representative must be present if you excavate near any part of our natural gas transmission line.
If the pipeline is near the proposed excavation, please call 811. A CGT representative will be notified automatically and will contact you by phone prior to meeting you at the site to review your excavating plans. If your project requires an “encroachment permit,” the representative will also work with you to attain the permit.
